After Us: The Echoes of Humanity

Editorial | Book design

In a time when humans are no longer present, what traces of our existence remain—and how might they be read?

After Us is a visual excavation of the post-human era. Framed as a guidebook from a future civilization, this project speculates how memory, media, and silence might narrate what humanity once was. Through minimalist layouts, symmetrical structures, and archival imagery, it constructs a system of visual echoes—quiet fragments left behind after we are gone.

The project includes a book, posters, billboards, and other printed artifacts, designed as remnants of a story no longer being told, but still waiting to be deciphered.

Book Cover
The cover design echoes the project’s core concept of “post-human retrospection.” By playing with the words “After” and “Us” across front and back, the typography mimics symmetrical memory fragments—like language artifacts excavated in reverse. This echoing format establishes a contemplative silence, foreshadowing the project’s documentary-style narration.

Main Pages
The interior layout applies “cinematic symmetry” and horizontal sequencing, inspired by film cast lists and archival storytelling. Full-bleed images and structured columns build toward a silent climax, reflecting on humanity’s vanishing presence. The gradual tonal shift from color to monochrome mimics a fading cultural memory.

Posters, Billboards and Postcards
These public-facing visuals translate the book’s reflective tone into monumental formats. By extending the grid and typographic logic of the book across posters and billboards, the visual language amplifies the exhibition’s meditative impact, allowing the audience to encounter loss, echo, and historical fragments in public space.
